Getting to Christ Church Fulwood

Directions from the M1

 
 
       
  1. Take the M1 to Junction 33.
  2. From the roundabout at Junction 33, take the A630 (signposted Sheffield Centre) - 1st exit if coming from the south, 3rd if coming from the north.
  3. Follow the A630 for approximately 7 miles to a large roundabout (Park Square).
  4. From Park Square Roundabout, take the A61 (signposted Barnsley) - 5th exit.
  5. Follow the A61 for about ½ mile, passing through traffic lights, to the next roundabout (West Bar).
  6. At West Bar Roundabout, take the A57 (signposted Ring Road and Glossop) - 1st exit.
  7. Continue for another ½ mile on the A57, crossing another roundabout to Brook Hill Roundabout.
  8. At Brook Hill Roundabout, continue on the A57 (again signposted Glossop) - 2nd exit.
  9. Continue for 1 mile on the A57, passing the University of Sheffield, to the locality of Broomhill.
  10. At the 3rd set of lights, continue straight on along Fulwood Road where the A57 bears right uphill.
  11. Follow Fulwood Road for 2 miles, passing through a set of traffic lights, and Nether Green shops and the Tesco/Esso garage.
  12. Continue for a further ½ mile to the top of the hill - the church can be found on the right just after the crest of the hill.
  13. Turn right just before the church into Canterbury Avenue.

Parking is available in a small car park at the back of the church centre and on many of the surrounding streets. Please park considerately and carefully to avoid restricting access to our neighbours' homes.

 

Directions from the M1 south (alternative route) and Chesterfield

 
 
         
  1. Take the M1 to Junction 29.
  2. From the roundabout at Junction 29, take the A617 towards Chesterfield – second exit if coming from the south.
  3. Follow the A617 for approximately 5 miles to a roundabout in Chesterfield.
  4. From the roundabout take the A61 north (signposted Sheffield) - 3rd exit.
  5. Continue along the A61 through Chesterfield, going straight on at two roundabouts (signposted Sheffield).
  6. Remain on the A61 for a further 5 miles reaching two further roundabouts – the second at Meadowhead on the outskirts of Sheffield. Go straight on continuing on the A61 signposted City Centre - 2nd exit.
  7. Continue downhill past a Morrison’s supermarket on your left. After almost one mile, turn left into the B6068 Abbey lane (signposted Bakewell).
  8. Continue along the B6068 for 1 mile over a small roundabout and down to a set of traffic lights at the junction with the A621 (Abbeydale Road).
  9. Go straight over at the traffic lights (signposted Castleton) continuing on the B6068 through Ecclesall Woods and then bear 2nd right just before housing (signposted City Centre, Ecclesall).
  10. Continue along Abbey Lane to the traffic lights with the junction of A625 (Ecclesall Road South), turn right (signposted City Centre).
  11. Continue past the shops and after ¼ mile turn left into Bents Road and continue up the hill to the top (give way).
  12. Turn left onto Ringinglow Road for about ½ a mile.
  13. Just after the fire station on your left, turn right down Common Lane.
  14. After about 200 metres, bear left into Ivy Cottage Lane.
  15. Continue down the hill (narrow in places) to the bottom of the valley and over a single track bridge, then bearing right up the hill to the junction at the top (give way).
  16. Turn right and then left across the staggered junction into Whitfield Road.
  17. At the end, turn right into Brooklands Avenue. Go straight through the shopping area and up Brookhouse Hill.  The church is on your left.
  18. Turn left after the church into Canterbury Avenue.

Directions From Manchester and the west

 
 
         
  1. Take the A57 from Glossop over Snake Pass to Ladybower Reservoir.
  2. Keep on the A57 for 8 miles, passing the junction with the A6101 (signposted Hillsborough and M1 North) after 7 miles and continuing uphill for 1 mile until you enter the outskirts of Sheffield.
  3. Where the housing starts, take the first right uphill into Coldwell Lane (signposted Fulwood and Lodge Moor).*
  4. Follow Coldwell Lane for ½ mile to a crossroads (give way).
  5. Cross straight over into Carsick Hill Road.
  6. Follow Carsick Hill Road as it twists for 1 mile (becoming Stumperlowe Hall Road) until reaching a small junction (give way) with a red post box and yellow grit bin.
  7. Turn right into Chorley Road.
  8. Follow Chorley Road, straight across one crossroads (give way) to the second crossroads. You are now at Canterbury Avenue and the church is immediately opposite on the left.

* If you miss the right turn into Coldwell Lane, follow these steps 3 – 5 below:

  1. Continue on the A57 for a further ½ mile and immediately after the first pedestrian crossing at the top of the hill, reach a staggered crossroads.
  2. Turn right into Sandygate Road.
  3. Follow Sandygate Road for 1 mile through Crosspool shops, over a hill and past Hallam FC to Carsick Hill Road on the left (signposted Fulwood).
Now follow steps 6 – 8 above.

Arriving By public transport

If you are arriving in Sheffield by train, you will need to catch the number 40 or 120 bus to Fulwood (ensure it is destined for ‘Crimicar Lane’).

The number 40 or 120 bus can be caught from the Interchange (Bus Station) which is less than 5 minutes walk from the station. Cross the road outside the station and bear right down a covered walkway to the Interchange.

The number 40 or 120 bus can also be caught from Church Street (opposite the Cathedral) and West Street in the centre of Sheffield, or from Glossop Road in Broomhill.

The journey from the city centre takes approximately 25 minutes.

The number 40 or 120 buses run at 10 minute intervals during the day (weekdays only) and every 20 minutes during the evening and at weekends.

For those travelling from Ecclesall Road and Hunters Bar, the number 86 bus also runs to Fulwood. This runs every half hour during the daytime (Monday - Saturday) and hourly during evenings and on Sundays.

          Getting to Lighthouse
The Lighthouse takes place in Heeley Hall, which is part of Birkdale School on Endcliffe Crescent.
From Broomhill, follow the main road towards Fulwood (opposite direction to University). Once past the junction where the A57 turns right up the hill, Endcliffe Crescent is the second turning on the left (signposted for Earnshaw and Sorby Halls). Heeley Hall is about halfway down the hill on the left.
